The 15th edition of the European Financial Congress in Sopot has just closed. The KDPW Group has for many years hosted one of the debates at the event. This year, we organised the debate on “The role of capital markets in increasing competitiveness and financing investments in the Polish and European economies”.
Participating in the discussion were (in alphabetical order):
- Tomasz Bardziłowski, Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW)
- Waldemar Markiewicz, Chamber of Brokerage Houses (IDM)
- Kamil Pruchnik, European Investment Fund
- Małgorzata Rusewicz, Chamber of Funds and Asset Management (IFiZA)
- Maciej Trybuchowski, KDPW and KDPW_CCP
- Anna Wnuk, Polish Private Equity Association (PSIK)
The experts discussed, among others, how to integrate the Polish market into the ecosystem of markets and stock exchanges in the EU in the framework of the Savings and Investment Union; how to mobilise the existing reserves of capital in the form of savings; what measures could encourage companies to finance their growth with capital market instruments and private equity funds. The debate also addressed the deregulation of the capital market in Poland and the EU, as well as incentives for investors and issuers.
Speaking to Rzeczpospolita immediately after the panel, KDPW and KDPW_CCP CEO Maciej Trybuchowski said: “The Polish capital market is perfectly embedded in the ecosystem of the union of European markets. The share of foreign investors in the turnover on the Polish stock exchange at 60-70 percent shows that there are no regulatory barriers, no barriers in post-trade activities, which I represent on behalf of the Central Securities Depository of Poland (KDPW) and the clearing house KDPW_CCP. But what the Polish market does not have enough is scale and mass: an inflow of new, long-term capital to finance the economy.”
